Missing 1D Already? Check Out The Vamps' New Song

by Alex Kritselis

If One Direction's indefinite hiatus has you feeling blue, you must (read: MUST) check out The Vamps' new song, "Rest Your Love." The infectious track is just what the doctor ordered for downhearted Directioners... mostly because it sounds a lot like something 1D would've released circa 2012 (think the Take Me Home era). Look, I promise I'm not being shady. Yes, just like One Direction, The Vamps are a British boyband. And yes, just like One Direction, The Vamps make sunny, sing-along pop-rock — but they're a talented group of musicians in their own right. (They're not "copycats" or anything like that.) "Rest Your Love" — the second single to be lifted from The Vamps' recently released sophomore LP, Wake Up — just happens to strongly evoke 1D at what was, in my opinion, their very best! And there's a good reason for that...

"Rest Your Love" was co-written by Rami Yacoub, Carl Falk, and Savan Kotecha — the same three gentledudes responsible for co-writing One Direction's breakout hit, "What Makes You Beautiful" (plus a bunch of other glorious 1D jams, like "One Thing," "Live While We're Young," "Kiss You," "Heart Attack," "Change My Mind," etc.). Suddenly, it all makes sense. With its stompin' beat and über-catchy, instantly-stuck-in-your-head hook, "Rest Your Love" is basically the best One Direction song One Direction never recorded. (Again, I'm not being shady — I genuinely dig this tune. In fact, I've been singing its praises non-stop ever since I first heard it last week!)

On "Rest Your Love's" first verse and pre-chorus, lead vocalist Brad Simpson sings:

I see you move, so I do understand

Why you get attention

I hear you talk, but I don't comprehend

Why I get no mention

And you know, you know where to find me

Yeah, you know where to go when you're looking for love

And you know, you know where I'm hiding

Yeah, you know

Yeah, you know

And here's the irresistible refrain:

When the stars go out, you can rest your love on me

And when the world gets loud, baby, you can rest your love on me

When the stars go out, you can rest your love on me

(Yeah, you can rest your love on me)

And when the world gets loud, baby, you can rest your love on me

(Yeah, you can rest your love on me)

Delightful, right? The Vamps turned a few a heads in 2014 with their bubbly Demi Lovato duet, "Somebody to You," but they're still on the hunt for their first major U.S. hit. Could "Rest Your Love" take the country by storm? Hey, there's a boyband-shaped hole in the pop music scene right now — somebody's gotta fill it! With any luck, The Vamps will get their chance to shine in 2016.

"Rest Your Love" and Wake Up are available on iTunes and Spotify now.
