Plane Skids Off Nashville Runway

On Tuesday evening, a Southwest Airlines plane traveling from Houston skidded off on the runway at the Nashville International Airport. The Boeing 737 got stuck while taxiing, and rolled off the runway into a ditch at approximately 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft and taken off the runway. Three minor injuries were reported in the immediate aftermath.

Southwest released this statement shortly following the incident.

“At approximately 6:30 p.m. local time, Southwest Airlines flight 31 from Houston Hobby Airport to Nashville International Airport exited the taxiway shortly after arriving into Nashville, as the airplane was approaching the gate. The 133 passengers and five Crewmembers were safely transported into the airport, and we are currently working to support their needs. The Safety of our Customers and Employees remains our primary focus.”

Sarah Brann, a passenger on Flight 31, spoke with the Houston ABC News affiliate. "The flight was fine. We landed really hard and everything went out of control. I was sitting above the wing so I could see everything that was happening. It seemed like we landed and there was a huge, loud noise. It ended up looking like the wheel had broken," Brann said.

On Sunday, another Southwest flight made an emergency landing en route from Austin to Harlingen, Texas, after "ugly turbulence" led the pilot to ground at San Antonio International Airport.
