Bush Uses '90s Cartoons To Throw Shade At Trump

by Rachel Krantz

At Tuesday night's Republican Presidential Debate, Jeb Bush and Donald Trump seemed even more antagonistic with each other than usual. (And that's saying something.) It started out early in the night, when Bush, who is faltering in the latest polls at a measly three percent (compared to Trump's 41 percent), tried to attack the arguably unhinged frontrunner, saying, "Donald is great at the one liners, but he is a chaos candidate and he would be a chaos president."

Trump then responded, "Jeb doesn't really believe I am unhinged, he said that very simply because he has been a disaster in his campaign." I know you are but what am I?

The burns kept going from there, with several moments of Bush and Trump throwing shade at each other, Trump at one point calling him a "very nice guy," in a very not-nice, condescending way during a discussion of national security, adding later, "you're so tough, Jeb."

But the cherry on the Petty Cake of Desperation would have to be this actually real tweet that came from Jeb Bush's official campaign handle. Yes, this is real. And yes, this is what politics has dissolved to. Destroying what few fond childhood memories you have left.

Perhaps Bush's campaign is getting desperate by trying to sink to Trump's level — but I have to say, no matter the motive, it's hard to argue that this tweet is that far off. When the Hitler comparisons are rolling in, comparing Trump's policy ideas to Saturday Morning cartoons might actually be a bit too flattering. Here's the actual tweet.

Though intended as a response to Trump's comments Tuesday night, the tweet is actually nodding here to a comment Trump made on Meet the Press back in August, when, answering a question about who he talks to for military advice, Trump answered, "Well, I watch the shows. I mean, I really see a lot of great — you know, when you watch your show, and all of the other shows, and you have the generals, and you have certain people." (I wish I could make this stuff up.)

Were it attacking anyone else, perhaps I'd be angry about Bush abusing our favorite '90s cartoons for political gain. But the poor guy. He must be feeling a little sensitive after this photo started making the rounds.
