Armed Man Reported At Chapman University In CA

by Cate Carrejo

Administrators at Chapman University in Orange, California are sheltering students in response to reports of a person armed with a weapon on campus. Previous reports of evacuation have been rescinded, and students are now being urged to shelter in place across campus. Update: Chapman University said in a statement that activity has resumed as normal after a search found no threat, ABC 7 reports.

The suspect is described as male, short black hair, 25 to 30 years old, wearing a red, orange, and yellow sweatshirt. So far no shots have been fired and police are still searching for the suspect.

DeMille Hall, an office and classroom building where the suspect was reportedly seen coming out from, is located adjacent to the campus library. The library may be a target — the university's final exams are this week, and the library is currently running on a 24-hour schedule to accommodate students' needs.

At 8:16 p.m. Pacific Time, Chapman University officially cleared the threat and returned to normal campus operations. Orange Police indicated the situation was a "false alarm."
