Cate Thanks Woody in her Acceptance Speech

by Lindsay Mannering

It's like choosing between best friends, only they're not your friends, and they're extremely talented, professional business women who happen to get photographed sitting outside at a restaurant, eating salad. The 2014 SAG Award nominees for Best Actress in a Motion Picture are Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine, Sandra Bullock for Gravity, Judi Dench for Philomena, Meryl Streep for August: Osage County, and Emma Thompson for Saving Mr. Banks. Missing from the list is Kate Winselt, who was nominated for the 2014 Golden Globe for her role in Labor Day, and added to the list is Streep, who was passed over by the Hollywood Foreign Press. Ultimately, the 2014 SAG Award for Best Actress was given to Cate Blanchett.

It was Blanchett who won the Golden Globe and clearly, the SAG Award voters feel like she deserved another trophy. Blanchett, who starred in the Woody Allen film that came out in the summer of 2013, has stayed far away from the criticism surrounding awards season perpetual obsession with the very controversial director, but graciously thanked Allen in her acceptance speech for creating "role after role after role" for women.

She also thanked the voters in her speech, saying if they didn't vote for her this go round, "better luck next year."

The 2014 Oscars are up next — will Blanchett bring home the top prize? Odds are she will. The nominees for the Academy Award are Sandra Bullock, Gravity; Judi Dench, Philomena; Meryl Streep, August: Osage County; Amy Adams, American Hustle; and of course, Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine.
