Get Rey's Triple Buns From 'Star Wars'

by Julia Musto

Want to get Rey's triple bun from Star Wars: The Force Awakens ? It's totally doable! Forty years ago, Princess Leia brought an iconic (perhaps the most iconic) hairstyle into the pop culture realm that would live on for generations to come: two shiny, brown donut buns situated at the side of her head. Now, a decade past Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, hairstyles in Star Wars cater to the newer fashion-forward generation, along with old fans of the series itself.

Rey, played by actress Daisy Ridley, has a simple, not too polished look that can easily translate from the big screen to the street. Her 'do is both sporty and elegant, nicknamed by Vogue the "triple bun." The publication went so far as to ask "Like the Katniss Everdeen braid and the Mad Max buzz cut before it, could the Star Wars triple bun become the next cinematic hairstyle with crossover appeal to hit the streets?" I'd argue yes! It is very wearable and easy to replicate. In fact, mega fans of Star Wars and hair have already taken to social media to recreate the look for themselves.

Will it spread? I'm not quite sure, but only time will tell. Until then, you can decide whether this is your next wedding look to pin on Pinterest. That begs the question, how do you get the triple bun? Here's what I've pieced together thus far.

Firstly, these are what Rey's buns look like from a few different angles:

Second, here are some recreations:
