Can You Guess These Emoji Holiday Song Lyrics?

by Megan Grant

Voice-to-text translators have been a lifesaver — literally — so it was only a matter of time before someone developed a voice-to-emoji app for iPhone and Android. Now you don't have to be the peabrain on the road trying to text and drive. It also means that earlier today, I received a text that said, "I'm so lucking mad, Bacon," followed by, "Sorry. Voice to text. Grin." And thanks to a new app called SpeakEmoji, you can now speak into your phone and send emoji to all your admirers. What a time to be alive, no?

SpeakEmoji is a simple, free app that lets you speak into the microphone of your phone, thereby translating your words into emoji. You can share the emoji message via social media or send it privately via text, email, or Facebook Messenger, and the recipient will get the message with a link to its translation. Sometimes, the translations are more straightforward and obvious; other times, they make little to no sense. Those are definitely the funniest, though. Seriously — not only did I underestimate how entertaining this was going to be, but moreover, I think my boyfriend and I just found our new favorite game. We've been exchanging quotes from some of our favorite books the entire morning, and now I'm sitting here laughing like a hyena while my dog looks on suspiciously.

How about we play a few rounds together? Because I have a beautiful singing voice (shut up), and in the spirit of the holidays, I sang some of my favorite Christmas songs into SpeakEmoji. Below are screenshots of my emoji messages. Make your best guess as to what the lyrics are, and then check your answer.

Let's start off simple. Take a crack at this one.

Round 1:

Think you got it? Check your answer here! See? That wasn't too bad.

Let's try another easy one.

Round 2:

After you've made your pick, you can check your answer here.

Someone grab an extinguisher, because you're on fire. Let's get a little more creative. This one is tricky, but try looking for context clues.

Round 3:

When you're ready, see if you got it right.

I knew you could do it! Here's another one. I had no idea some of these emoji even existed.

Round 4:

Feeling confident? Let's find out what you're made of. Check your answer here!

Sometimes, SpeakEmoji likes to throw a curveball and leave one of the emoji out. Then you have to put on your thinking cap and try to solve this bad boy.

Round 5:

Can you outsmart an app? Find out here.

You're starting to slack. Pay attention, because this is important — so important that the Oxford Dictionary 2015 Word of the Year was an emoji. Yes. The word was a picture. The "face with tears of joy" to be exact. OK

Let's kick things up a notch. This one might throw you for a loop. Heck, I don't even remember what the answer is.

Round 6:

Let's check this translation together. Three, two, one, GO.

I can see the beads of perspiration glistening on your forehead. Relax. This is a long one, but I have faith in you.

Round 7:

Let's see if you know your Christmas song lyrics as well as you think you do. Check your answer here!

This is getting out of control. I feel like Aunt Gretchen after one too many glasses of eggnog. Oh well. It's Christmas. Here's your next emoji message; and it has a glass of wine in it, so you know it'll be good.

Round 8:

Check your answer here! You forgot about that song, didn't you? Silly rabbit.

This next one has an engagement ring in it; so it sounds like it'll be a good Christmas.

Round 9:

Fools! Sometimes SpeakEmoji likes to mix things up. You better bring your A-game if you plan to make it out of this alive.

Here's the next one.

Round 10:

Yeah... Not sure where lipstick comes into play... but this is SpeakEmoji. Rise to the challenge.

And this last one is just for funsies, because SpeakEmoji has a sense of humor.

Round 11:

When you're ready, you can find the answer here.

Wasn't that a blast? Of course it was. Try SpeakEmoji on your desktop and download it on your phone today. You'll have so much fun doing this when your boss isn't around.
