Lance Bass' New Song Wishes It Was Catchy

The members of 'N Sync have ended up in very different places. There's Justin Timberlake, who is, well, being Justin Timberlake. No explanation necessary. There's Joey Fatone who's doing hairplug infomercials. There's the other two who are... doing stuff? Probably? Who knows. Then there's Lance Bass who most recently has been in the news for getting engaged to his boyfriend and hasn't made any music for 12 years. It seemed that the music was left, for the most part, to Timberlake and the odd 'N Sync reunion, but now Lance Bass has released a new song called "Walking On Air." The song features Snoop Dog and Bella Blue and was produced by Anise K.

About the new song Bass told E! News,

"For the last two years I've been listening to demos, just trying to figure out if I want to get back in the studio. I hadn't heard anything that resonated with me. But a couple of months ago, a track from Anise K landed in my lap from a friend of mine and he was like, 'I think this will be your first song.'"

The song sounds like a very generic dance club song. You can't tell real people are even singing. This could be totally computerized or sung by robots. There's no range, no enthusiasm, no nothing to the voices. Well, except for Snoop Dog. Snoop Dog always sounds like Snoop Dog. (As a side note, what happened to him being called Snoop Lion? I can't keep up.) Also, Bass doesn't even sing, at least not on his own, until a minute and a half into the song. Are we sure this isn't featuring Lance Bass rather than the other way around?

Weirdly, or maybe even sadly, Lance Bass seems to agree with the generic part. "These days songs have to be played in clubs and this is one of those songs that you'll definitely hear in the club. I'm sure it will be remixed so many different times." Yep, that's a great way to look at your first song in 12 years, as something that's not even really your own that will be chewed up and spit out by a hundred DJs and heard by a bunch of swaying drunkards in a club. This isn't even the first version of the song. Other versions have previously been released in Australia and Belgium with other singers.

Bass went on to say, "I'm going to release it and if people love it, hopefully it will climb the charts...I'm just going to play it by ear," when asked if he would be returning to stage performances. For now we'll have to wait and see if "Walking on Air" becomes an unlikely earworm or if this non-catchy song that was created solely for being catchy remains that way.
