Sick Mom Pens Moving, Hilarious Letter To Daughter

by Kaitlyn Wylde

Typically, if you see headlines floating around the internet claiming that a sick mother's goodbye letter to her daughter will bring you to tears, you have an idea what type of letter it will be. You know: sentimental, encouraging, loving, and a bit depressing — not filled with curse words and a promise to haunt her family. Not to mention, you imagine the latter to have a less-than-heartwarming effect.

And yet, Heather McManamy — cancer fighter, mother, wife — manages to write the most heartfelt, down-to-Earth goodbye letter to her husband and daughter that also simultaneously works as an embrace-life-letter for the rest of the world. It avoids cheese at all costs, it discourages talk of Heaven and encourages tall bar tabs and dancing. It's surely one the most unique, sincere, and special letters that have been shared with us online, and we're so grateful to Heather's amazing husband who decided to post her message on his Facebook and spread the inspiring warmth of his late wife.

To her daughter, who might be too young to wrap her head around the loss of her mother, the letter will serve as an infinite and intimate portal to her mother that both captures her spirit and depth. An excerpt below:

So…I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is, apparently, I’m dead. Good news, if you’re reading this, is that you are most definitely not (unless they have wifi in the afterlife). Yes, this sucks. It sucks beyond words, but I’m just so damn glad I lived a life so full of love, joy and amazing friends. I am lucky to honestly say that I have zero regrets and I spent every ounce of energy I had living life to the fullest. I love you all and thank you for this awesome life.
