The 'American Idol' Opening Sequence Is Deep, Guys

by Caitlyn Callegari

I'll never forget all the seasons I spent watching American Idol growing up. And, not to toot my own horn or anything, but, like Simon Cowell, I totally saw the potential in the superstars that were initially considered the underdogs. At one point, Idol was the show my family and I were invested in and watched together, and, despite my admitted avoidance of it in recent years, it's still special to me. Believe it or not, though, it is about to end. Per People, the opening sequence of the final season of American Idol was released. And, let me tell you, whether you stopped watching years ago like me, or whether you still do, it's going to make you crazy with with the feels.

People explains that in the video, "Judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. reflect on the impact Fox's singing competition has made over the years." And they also assert that, due to it being the last season and all, we're all obviously bound to feel "a little nostalgic." To which I have to say, "A little?!" This show has been on the air for more than half of my life time. I'm going through some serious stuff right now over this! And, no offense to JLo, Urban, or Connick, but these relative newbies are not the reason why this video resonates with me as much as it does.

The Farewell Season opening sequence video is touching because it basks in the nostalgia of it all, and rightly so. Between the clip of a baby faced Ryan Seacrest and the poor pushed aside Brian Dunkleman introducing themselves, or the announcement and victories of various winners, or the finality of it all, it's staying. When I watch it, it kind of feels like my whole life is flashing before my eyes. It gets deep, guys. I hope you're prepared for it. Grab a box of tissues and hold on tight to your youth.

OK, OK, they've roped me in. I guess I'm invested in American Idol one last time.
