5 Ways To Drink More Water And Feel Great In 2016

Oh hey there, 2016. You're right around the corner, which means that it's time to take on those healthy new year's resolutions — like figuring out ways to drink more water this year. After all, these types of goals are the kind that will help make 2016 your best year yet. Because when you're in tip-top shape, you can take on the world like the badass you are.

Personally, I'm trying to take on the habit of drinking more water. Don't get me wrong — I love nothing more than a refreshing glass of H2O. There's just something so perfect about it when you're parched after a long day. However, our bodies need way more than a daily glass or two. In reality, we should be aiming for eight or nine glasses each day. Aside from giving us energy without the caffeine crash, water is essential for healthy, skin, hair, and nails. Staying hydrated also helps the brain focus and function properly. Basically, water is magic.

With that said, I know I need to drink more water throughout the day. It's just a matter of adopting the habit and sticking with it. And I know I can’t be the only one. Looking to get more water in your system? Check out my five tips for sticking to your new year's resolution to drink more water. Your body will thank you!

1. Set an alarm

When it comes to staying on top of your A-game, an alarm clock is your best friend. It's the easiest way to keep track of time and sprinkle reminders throughout your day. This is especially useful for remembering to fill up that water bottle again and again.

Thanks to technology and smartphones, you can easily set an alarm with a click of a button. Aim for a refill every two hours instead of whenever you feel thirsty. It's the best way to recharge throughout the work day without reaching for a third latte.

2. Infuse water

If you're the type that prefers flavored beverages, consider making infused water. This method will bring in the right amount of sweetness minus the added sugar and preservatives. The best part is that it is so easy to forget that you're drinking water to begin with.

There are so many ways you can take this on. Water infused with berries, oranges, or apples are all delicious. Watermelon is perfect during the summer. Want something super simple? Opt for a simple slice of lemon or lime. Take it up a notch with basil, mint, cinnamon, or nutmeg. The flavored-water world is yours.

3. Drink tea

For another way to sneak in the H2O, turn to a cup of homemade tea. Not only is it good for you (hello, antioxidants!), but you'll get a heavy helping of water. It helps that tea is pretty darn delicious, too.

During the winter months, go for hot tea. Add some honey and lemon for extra flavor. When the weather starts to warm up, drink homemade cold tea instead of the store-bought kind. The latter tends to have extra sugar, preservatives, and things you could totally do with out. This will ensure that you're getting your water intake in the best way possible.

4. Start a morning ritual

They say that the first thing you do in the morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. Get yourself in the water-chugging mindset by drinking a glass of water the moment you wake up. It's the best way to rev yourself up, even before reaching for the coffee maker.

Make it easy for yourself by keeping a glass of water by your bed. That way, you won't have to go far to get your first serving in.

5. Carry a bottle

For an easy reminder to fill up on H2O, make it a habit to carry a water bottle with you. Simply keep one at your desk while you work, or throw it in your purse before running errands. Even just slowly sipping water throughout the day can make a difference.

Your best bet is to go for a leak-proof bottle to protect your belongings. Fellow clumsy ladies, I know you get me on this one.
