This 'Notting Hill' Easter Egg Is Adorable

Notting Hill is one of the best — in my opinion — romantic comedies of all time, and while it's 16 years old, audiences are still learning more about the film to this day. This week, devoted fans learned of an Easter egg in the movie Notting Hill , even after it's been a decade and a half since the film came out. If you're like me, you've seen the film about umpteen times and never noticed anything irregular. So what on earth could the film have left that I haven't noticed?

Well, as Buzzfeed noticed, there's a telling reference hidden in the flash forward to Anna Scott and Will Thacker's wedding at the end, and it comes from earlier in the movie. When Anna, played by Julia Roberts, and Will, played by Hugh Grant, first meet, Anna winds up in Will's apartment to change, and compliments him on a Chagall print hanging on the wall. The painting is titled La Mariée. She describes the painting as feeling "like how love should be; floating through a dark blue sky." But Will is quick to point out that it also includes a goat playing the violin, and Anna quips back, "happiness isn't happiness without a violin-playing goat."

There's a little wink to the Easter egg in the fact that the title of the painting translates to "The Bride," which is cute. The painting figures into the story again later on, when Anna purchases the original for Will as a please-love-me-again gift, but the little nugget I'm referring to is at the wedding itself, where this appears:

Do my eyes deceive me, or is that a violin-playing goat on the wedding cake?! Guess it really is happiness after all, not just because these two lovebirds got married, but because we finally discovered this hidden treat in one of the best romantic comedies out there.
