Justin Bieber Brings Back His Man Bun

The man bun is back. No, not on the Jared Leto's head, either. Justin Bieber brought back his man bun, a trend he rocked earlier this year. But you know what? The Biebs resurrected the man bun in much the same way he exhumed his career, which was flailing about and on life support. After a few years of questionable behavior and tabloid headlines taking precedence over his music, which was the very reason anyone cared about him to begin with, Bieber rebounded.

He came back better than ever, with one of his strongest albums to date in the form of Purpose, which sold huge and yielded several hit singles.

The same can be said about his bun. That is, it's better now than it was before.

Earlier this year, Bieber's man bun was the little topknot that couldn't. It came thisclose to follicle awesomeness, but fell slightly short and was a "boy" bun. It needed to be a bit longer and he needed to steer clear of a 'stache; I even made some other suggestions for taking the bun from "loser to Leto!"

The Biebs posted a shirtless shot of himself fashioning his mega blonde 'do into a man bun. Jelena shippers, let's not try and decode who the chick is. Let's just have a laser-like focus on that bun.

Board shorts? Check. Buff, tattooed body? Check. Blonde? Check... twice. Bun? Check.

Bunhead!

You can appreciate the length and the super bright shade here. If he grows his strands a few more inches, he will have even more of a supreme topknot. I support him returning to this style.

When he had longer, messier hair earlier this year, it wasn't as fashionable or as seasoned as it is now. Perhaps that has to do with his image. Perhaps not. All I know is Bieber is back in top form with his sound and his style.

Let's have a look back at the year in Bieber hair. It mimics his return to musical form, too!

1. Blonde & Long

He has favored longer locks in 2015. He's also shown a predilection for blonde, too. He is growing, changing, and evolving, both with his follicles and his songs. In 2015, he kept coming back to long and blonde.

2. '80s New Wave

The Biebs was born in the '90s, but he looked to '80s new wave for inspo with this shaggy coif. It was messy, but a little punk rock, too.

3. Push Back

Da Biebs proved his musical versatility with the smooth pop of "Sorry" and "What Do You Mean." His long locks and style have proven versatile, too.

4. Mad Hatter

JB was all about hats this year, too! That helped keep his growing hair in check, much like he got his ego and bad boy side under control after a few erratic years. He rocked skullies, like this white one...

... And this black one.

He was also all about snapbacks.

He loves him a good cap and a hood.

5. Platinum

Bieber was a white hot, platinum blonde for a few. It was a very EDM presentation but it worked. I had suggested doing a brown man bun, but since he stayed blonde for much of 2015, I am more accepting of the blonde bun.

6. Sideswipe

Bieber went with a deep part and darker roots.

7. Ombre-iber

Check out those roots on pop music's golden boy! It was an ombre hue with gold and brown tones. All of these hair changes put him in a league with female peers like Rihanna and Katy Perry. It showed he understands the nature of the beast and how the image must accompany the music.

8. High Style

For the Met Gala, The Biebs rocked a gold, embroidered jacket and a crisp, clean 'do. It was his biggest style moment of the year and proved he was serious about cleaning up his act. His hair matched that energy.

9. Roastin'

He was growing out his hair for his Comedy Central Roast, once again showing us he was no longer than 15-year-old YouTuber. At first, I didn't love this look, partly because of the 'stache and partly because it took some getting used to.

10. Pharrellin'

That hat, though! He was all sorts of taking inspo from Pharrell Williams aka the right kind of source material.

11. Boyish & Backwards

He had a rebel vibe at the top of the year, with his backwards cap and boyish tan. But he was still becoming a man — musically and style-wise.

2015 was a year of growing and changing in more ways than one.
