Never Have Another Awkward Family Movie Night

Family movie night is great. Family movie sex scenes are, um, not. There are few things that make me more instantly uncomfortable than accidentally getting stuck watching sexy scenes with my parents, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this. Great news on this front, though: CringeMDB rates which movies are safe to watch with your family. In terms of sex things. I cannot believe this has not been created earlier. Praise be.

CringeMDB is pretty much what it sounds like: an IMDB-esque database, but with a focus on what makes a movie cringe-y. Just type a movie title into their search engine, and they'll let you know very plainly whether you should see it with parentals, or whether you should... not. Very, emphatically not.

There are, of course, a few catches, the primary one being that this database only includes movies from 1995 to 2015 (I will say, though, that I tested one of my all-time fave movies, A League of Their Own, and it not only recognized the movie but approved it whole-heartedly because duh). CringeMDB also doesn't really elaborate on why films are approved, or are not. I don't know about you, but I would appreciate a few specifics; I'd go so far as to suggest that a future update to the site might specify exactly how it makes its determinations.

Anyway, I thought I'd run some new family classics (which also happen to all be available online!) through this bad boy and see what the dealio is. How will these four flicks measure up?

1. A League of Their Own (1992)

Yaaaaaassss. Obviously this is the perfect family fare. This is the best movie of all time to watch with young and old alike. I love this film so much.

2. Forrest Gump (1994)

I feel like there's a lot of, like, smoochy stuff in this movie, but apparently it's the appropriate kind of smoochy stuff. Plus, you forget about the smoochy stuff every time Tom Hanks starts talking in that accent anyway.

3. Legally Blonde (2001)

Moms love this movie, Dads love this movie, I love this movie — and yet, it is NOT. APPROVED. Again, I'd like them to elaborate on why this is the case, because I truly don't think this is too cringe-worthy for family film night.

4. Love Actually (2003)

Ah yes, the classic zero-warning nudity scene. Unless you are very cool with watching a meet-cute that involves two fully nude humans simulating a porn scene, maybe reserve this one for wine night with the high school pals.
