These Models Are Going To Do Big Things In 2016

by Melanie Richtman

It's safe to say that 2015 was a big year for Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. They both walked in the top fashion week shows, booked plenty of Vogue covers, and landed several huge campaigns. But their reign as the world's top models can't last forever, and while I assume Jenner and Hadid will still be landing the best shows and magazine covers, they're going to have some competition in when these models make it big in 2016.

In a sea of professional beauties, it can be tough to stand out, but there are plenty of models who've been doing awesome work in 2015, preparing themselves to blow up in the coming year. A few of these models have made waves on social media, acquiring hundreds of thousands of followers in a matter of months, others have gotten media attention for their eccentricities, and a lot of them have starred in campaigns for your favorite designers, so it's only a matter of time before they take over the fashion world.

And while I'm not a psychic, I spend my days working at a modeling agency, so I would like to think that I have a somewhat decent idea of which models people are obsessing over and who will be successful in 2016.

Luping Wang

Not only does Wang have the face of an angel, but she walked in the Chanel Pre-Fall show (which is always a good sign that you're going to succeed) and repeatedly books editorials for Vogue China.

Ana Cristina

When Vogue calls you out for being "totally—for lack of a better word—cool," you know you're in for a good year. Ana Cristina walked in some major shows last season, including Marc Jacobs, Rodarte and Balmain, and recently appeared in Vogue Mexico. It's only a matter of time before this girl books a major campaign.

This beauty had an amazing fashion month, booking shows for Kenzo, Gucci and Hermes, among others, but her real claim to fame is starring in Marc Jacobs' Fall/Winter 2015 campaign.

This androgynous model got a lot of attention earlier in December for criticizing Victoria's Secret's use of models who are considered conventionally beautiful, and I'm willing to bet that her career is going to blow up now that she has the world's attention.

Meredith Mickelson

In a matter of months, 16-year-old Mickelson has earned a hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram. I think 2016 is going to be a really good year for her.

Winnie Harlow

Winnie Harlow first made a name for herself on America's Next Top Model, but she really grabbed the world's attention for having vitiligo, or more importantly, how the world was able to look past the fact that she has a skin condition and welcome her into the fashion world with open arms. According to models.com's hot list, Harlow is seriously in demand.

Marland Backus

Oh, Marland. She's so cool. From starring in campaigns for Celine to walking in some of the biggest runway shows, Marland Backus had a great 2015. She recently got the attention of the New York Times — talk about exposure.

Myla Dalbesio

Myla Dalbesio grabbed the world's attention when she starred in a Calvin Klein campaign as their first "plus-size" model. While people were skeptical about Dalbesio being considered truly plus-size, she continued to book work, even posing for Elle. She has been in demand ever since.

Lameka Fox

Fox was discovered by IMG on Instagram, was quickly signed and within no time was walking in the Marc Jacobs' Resort show. You will definitely be seeing a lot more of this fresh face in 2016.
