The Best Lipsticks Of 2015

by Jessica Willingham

Lipstick has come a long way in the last few years, and 2015 may have been the best one yet. We saw innovative formulas, funky colors, and unforgettable looks. Companies released brand new lipsticks and remixed formulas, and lesser known products received breakout recognition. In case you're wondering (which you definitely are), here are the best lipsticks of 2015 to shop now and keep your pout game strong in 2016.

2015 stepped away from ultra feminine, glossy lips and took a turn for the moody, with matte browns and vampy purples. Unconventional colors grabbed the spotlight, so it isn't uncommon to see a black, white, or even green lip. I think that trend will continue in 2016, but I also foresee a revitalization of our middle school years thanks to glitter formulas. Yep, I'm calling it: Glitter lipsticks will make a big comeback in 2016. You're welcome.

This year also accomplished a lot to close the quality gap between drugstore and department store products. Now, you can buy affordable liquid lipsticks at the same place you buy shaving cream and Q-tips. It's pretty cool, if you ask me. Not only has drugstore upped its game, but indie brands are popping up left and right, too, boasting amazing pigmentation at unreal prices. There's never been a better time for makeup, y'all. Celebrate good times, c'mon!

Below are some of my favorite new lipsticks of 2015.

1. Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Touch of Spice

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Touch of Spice, $5.49, target.com

These matte lipsticks won't dry or peel out your lips unlike other formulas. This line has tons of color options, too, and is unbeatable in price.

2. OFRA Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Miami Fever

OFRA Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Miami Fever, $19.90, ofracosmetics.com

Liquid lipsticks were a huge trend this year. YouTube beauty vlogger Kathleen Lights came out with her own shade, Miami Fever, and it's the perfect warm red hue.

3. Milani Cosmetics Amoure Matte Lip Cremes

Milani Cosmetics Amoure Matte Lip Cremes, $8.99, milanicosmetics.com

These are hand down the best in the drugstore. They're ultra pigmented, and if worn with a lip liner, they last all day and night.

4. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita, $20.00, katvondbeauty.com

This isn't a new lipstick, but it is a new formulation. The line also released 16 new shades this year, including Lolita II.

5. Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Androgyny

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Androgyny, $18.00, jefreestarcosmetics.com

This brownish red was the color of the year and a total throwback to the '90s. Matte formulations have been huge in 2015 and it seems like it'll be a trend that will be sticking around next year.

6. NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick, $7.00, nyxcosmetics.com

This was recently released and might be the new formulation craze in 2016. It's a mix between a lipstick and a liquid lipstick, so it's super soft and wearable.

7. CoverGirl Colorlicious Lip Lava

CoverGirl Colorlicious Lip Lava, $8.99, drugstore.com

These glittery, gloss-like lipsticks are not subtle. They come in wild colors, so it's great for a party.

8. Too Faced Melted Chocolate Liquified Lipstick

Too Faced Melted Chocolate Liquified Lipstick, $21.00, toofaced.com

These are creamy, pigmented liquid lipsticks that have warm brown undertones. They also have a unique, soft tip applicator that makes applying super easy.

9. Lip Kit by Kylie

Lip Kit by Kylie, $29.00, lipkitbykylie.com

Yep, it's the launch that broke the internet. Kylie Jenner came out with three shades, ranging from a sugary pink to a dark, true brown. The only problem? They're near impossible to pin down. I'm sure she'll restock next year, though. Don't fret!
