More Charges For San Bernardino Shooter's Neighbor

On Wednesday, one of the San Bernardino shooters' friends, Enrique Marquez, was indicted on more charges related to the attack, which left 14 people dead and even more seriously injured earlier this December. With the new indictments, Marquez now has a total of five criminal charges lodged against him, some with multiple counts. The charges against him are: conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, two counts of making false statements regarding the purchase of two assault rifles used in the shooting, and two counts of making a false statement on immigration paperwork. David Bowdich of the FBI confirmed the additional charges, and said:

The covert nature of the defendant’s alleged actions is a stark reminder of the challenges we face in preventing attacks planned in the name of violent jihad, and underscores the critical need for those with knowledge about terror plots to come forward.

The charges against Marquez aren't all related to the San Bernardino shooting, but also to other terrorism plots he allegedly planned with San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook in 2011 and 2012. According to The Los Angeles Times, prosecutors claim that Marquez and Farook had conspired on a plot to throw pipe bombs into a crowded college cafeteria. The alleged plan was never enacted.

Marquez has not yet entered a plea, but his preliminary hearing is set to take place on Jan. 4.
