Why Didn't Oscar Isaac Get A Golden Globe Nom?

by Jennifer Still

As someone who was never really a Star Wars fan but loved The Force Awakens , I have to say that Oscar Isaac — the wonderfully talented (and handsome, let's be real) actor who played rebel pilot virtuoso Poe Dameron — was one of my favorite parts of Episode VII. Sure, there's a lot to be said for the writing of the character, but I'm convinced that no one could have played the role as well as Isaac, who just has that certain je ne sais quoi that makes him irresistible. The Golden Globes voting body must agree with me on that, because they've nominated him... though not for his work in Star Wars. Isaac picked up a nom in the Best Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category for his work in Show Me A Hero. That's great, but given Force Awakens' amazing success, why wasn't Isaac nominated for a Golden Globe for Star Wars?

Sure, it'd probably be greedy to want more than one nomination, and Isaac himself is extremely pleased with being recognized for his work in Show Me A Hero, but a Supporting Actor nod for Force Awakens wouldn't have gone awry — at least not in my book. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega may be more likely candidates due to the amount of time they spent on screen (same goes for Harrison Ford and even Adam Driver), but without Poe Dameron, Force Awakens would have been much less fun.

Isaac's lack of nomination for Star Wars may also have been due to the film's release date. After all, Force Awakens only hit theaters on December 17 — hardly enough time for voting bodies to fully consider his performance (or anyone in the cast's performance, for that matter) before announcing the nominations. However, it could be pointed out that the likes of The Danish Girl and The Revenant received multiple noms, despite being released on January 1, 2016 and January 15, 2016 respectively. Sadly, Star Wars wasn't represented in the Golden Globe noms at all, though there's still hope for the Oscars.

There's also still hope for Isaac to get even more attention for her role as Poe Dameron in future episodes of the Star Wars franchise. Now that Han Solo is dead (RIP), we're in need of a new rebel pilot with loads of sass and a sense of adventure, and who can fill those shoes better than Poe Dameron? I have a feeling we'll be seeing even more of him in Episode VIII and frankly, I can't wait. For now, Isaac's still a winner to me.
