A Throwback to J. Lo's First Golden Globe Look

Clearly, dazzling on the red carpet has always been in Jennifer Lopez's blood. The formula runs the same: exposed skin and one enviable figure. And even in 1998, J. Lo's first Golden Globes look was nothing short of seduction. Since this is from the same celeb who can sexily rock cat-eye frames at movie premieres and slay in a $60 bodysuit, is anyone really surprised?

While the general public fawned over dELiA*s catalogs in '98, the stars of Hollywood went another route. For Lopez, formal attire translated to simplicity — but with a risqué kick. The songstress stunned in a multicolor dress at the 55th Golden Globe Awards, but in true J. Lo flavor, the ensemble didn't end there. A one-shoulder design and racy cut-out elevated the look to the next level. In a time where tube tops and shrug cardigans were at the height of its power, Lopez's getup is a refreshing change.

The sleek frock may just as well mark the beginning of J. Lo's now signature wardrobe. Eighteen years later, the power woman is still the queen of come-hither dressing. Her striking outfits balances both sensuality and style, and certainly no one is complaining over here.

Lopez teased some skin with a tricolor number — a duo of pastel hues that is perfectly complimented by the dark plum. The silk dress fits like a dream, accentuating J. Lo's covetable curves.

January in Los Angeles can swing on the chilly side, so celebs should be well-equipped with a form of outerwear when the goosebumps strike. Lopez went for a sheer white cape — possibly the first of many translucent masterpieces to come (exhibit A: Versace at the Met Gala).

Bejeweling was kept to the minimum, as Lopez opted for a dainty pearl bracelet and crystal earrings. And forget about clutches on the red carpet — they are so overdone. Instead, J. Lo tops everything off with a metallic crossbody pouch — most likely smaller than today's iPhone, but roomy enough to store a Lip Smacker or two. I'd like to think that even Jennifer Lopez was not immune to the power of a tropical punch Lip Smacker.
