Creepy Old Man McCain Defends Sexual Harassment

by Lane Florsheim

Not to be confused with Superman, self-appointed Free Speech Police John McCain is making sure all the good guys in the world maintain their First Amendment right to sexually harass.

Following increasing student complaints about the epidemic of college campus rape culture, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights (OCR) worked with the University of Montana in May to create an agreement aiming to prevent sexual harassment and assault on campus.

The agreement resulted not because the University of Montana hates free speech and wants to establish a dictatorship over its student population, but rather due to a series of high-profile cases and their subsequent mishandling by campus authorities. (For example, Jezebel reported on a particularly troubling case where a woman who reported her attempted rape and was told "not to expect much," and that half of all rape allegations are false.)

Yes, it's definitely the accused perpetrator, and not this young woman, whose rights are being violated.

Last Wednesday, Sen. McCain (R-AZ) sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder saying, "Without congressional authorization... Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez and a group of lawyers in DOJ’s Civil Rights Division have single-handedly redefined the meaning of sexual harassment at all universities and colleges across the country that receive public funding... According to the Civil Rights Division’s Letter of Findings, DOJ now defines sexual harassment as 'any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature.'"

Thank you, Sen. McCain, for looking out for our constitutional rights to conduct unwelcome sexual behavior. Oh you freedom lover, you.
