Love Did Not Keep These Two Together Forever

by Alanna Bennett

Some famous-people romances you contemplate a little bit in your everyday life — are Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams really best off together, or did we all just watch The Notebook and that MTV Movie Awards kiss* a little too hard? Others you drop out of your mind for long stretches of time if you ever even thought about them at all, until they come crashing back in to break your hearts. Such is the case with the divorce of the Captain & Tennille.

In case you've completely forgotten who Captain and Tennille are or else never had any idea: They are the musical duo behind such '70s hits as "Love Will Keep Us Together." Ohhh, the irony.

This is probably a pretty hard time for Toni Tennille, 73, and Daryl Dragon (Daryl Dragon! God, what a great name), 71, who filed for divorce in Arizona City on Jan. 16 and who now have to deal with hordes of press about it mainly circling around the irony of the event's correspondence with their biggest hit.

Tennille and Dragon (Dragon!!) were first married in 1975, meaning they've had nearly forty years of marriage. So, well, love did keep them together, for a damn long time. Just not forever.

*Never forget.
