Emilia Clarke's 2016 Golden Globes Look Is Fire

by Amanda Richards

On the red carpet, it's almost difficult to recognize this actor without the white blonde hair of Daenerys Targaryen. Still, even without that icy mane, Emilia Clarke looked stunning on the 2016 Golden Globes red carpet. Clarke herself wasn't given a Best Actress nod (thought she totally deserved it this year), but Game of Thrones was nominated for Best Television Series — Drama, and it would be no surprise if Season 5 was able to earn the series this award. The actor walked the red carpet looking absolutely incredible in a stunning black lace gown with a lace cape overlay. She kept her hair simple, half pinned up and parted in the middle, and her makeup was super natural and lovely.

Clarke has had plenty of incredible fashion moments since becoming the Mother of Dragons. Perhaps the most entertaining thing about her red carpet presence is that she's unafraid to take risks: One minute, she's wearing a Dior blazer as a mini dress, and the next she's channeling equal parts old Hollywood glam and Daenerys queenliness in Donna Karan Atelier. Her sartorial choices might not be for everyone, but then again, you can't expect everyone to understand the decisions of a queen. This year, she brought her opted for gown but still brought her unusual aesthetic to the red carpet once again.

That lace cape overlay is actually pretty reminiscent of some of her looks in Game Of Thrones. Observe:

Perhaps Clarke has let Daenerys' royal looks influence her red carpet style this year, or perhaps she simply knows that a dramatic cape is the fastest way to look like a queen, whether you're in Essos or Los Angeles. Bow down, all who serve her.
