Yummy '90s Spaghetti Strap Moments

by Julia Musto

In the spirit of awesome '90s throwbacks, let's look back on some amazing spaghetti strap moments you should aim to replicate today. For me, the '90s TV show girls spurred the trend of the spaghetti strap (Hilary Duff, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Silverstone, et cetera). However, supermodels like Kate Moss really made the trend popular, and it has lasted for years since its creation. Spaghetti strap tanks make for the perfect layering piece in all kinds of weather, and are great for day-to-night-wear transition. They also help you display statement necklaces and pendants more prominently, as well as show off your collar bone, neck, and shoulders.

While they are acceptable for school (well, some school — I'm looking at you, sexist dress codes!) and everyday usage, they also can be kind of sexy. Little spaghetti-strapped silk slip dresses were common club wear back in the day. Additionally, and terribly, people would sometimes wear them over white short-sleeved t-shirts, perhaps paired with jean skirts or cargo pants, in the '90s.

I think most would agree these days that layering a tank top over another type of shirt isn't the greatest look, but we can still appreciate how well the ladies of the '90s wore spaghetti straps. With that in mind, here is a look back at some of the best spaghetti-strapped moments of the decade.

It seemed like she almost exclusively wore spaghetti straps. But, I guess when you're round housing vamps all the time you need to wear something with mobility.

2. Jennifer Aniston

She was legitimately the queen of spaghetti staps and no bras.

3. Kate Moss

Kate Moss was basically the one who made this trend fashionable.

4. Halle Berry

Halle Berry looked gorgeous and premiere ready in this sleek black embroidered ensemble.

5. Angie

Angelina Jolie rocked the dress like no other.

6. Britney Spears

Brit looks not that innocent in this shiny, white, strapped, floor length dress. I love that hair too.

7. LeAnn Rimes

This singer's fringed top and leather pants were super rockstar. It was also very country; the straps were perfect for any look and any genre!

8. Elizabeth Hurley

This mosaic is literally painted on, but she looked positively royal next to Hugh Grant.

9. Gwenyth Paltrow

Goop stunned in pink. This is how to do scrappy and fancy the classy way.

10. Cindy Crawford

To be fair, Cindy Crawford could rock any trend. It didn't take spaghetti straps to make her popular.

11. Rachel in Friends

I know, I know, Rachel is Jennifer and Jennifer is Rachel, but her character wore a lot of strappy outfits.

Hopefully, I've given you a case for a '90s trend revival of some sort. The '90s are still very much alive and fashion history always repeats itself!
