The One Thing To Do Before Your Makeup In Winter

In the dark, cold months of winter, there's basically nothing I want to do less than get out of bed for work in the morning. My apartment is so cold and my bed is so cozy, and it's a little too tempting to hit the snooze button a million times. When I do finally wake up, my first order of business (after splashing my face with warm water and brushing my teeth) is to apply my makeup. But there's one thing you have to do before applying your makeup in the winter, and it might not be as obvious as you think.

If you're like me, you probably naturally get sniffly during the winter, even if you don't have a cold. And at least for me, sleeping in a cold room (which is my preferred temperature), means the parts of my body that are sticking out of the blankets are going to be colder than the rest of them when I wake up. That's why I discovered the one thing you have to do before applying makeup — blow your nose.

It sounds weird at first, but the more you think about it, this method totally makes sense.

When I wake up with a cold nose in the morning, my nose is almost always running slightly. I don't notice it at first, but inevitably 30 seconds after I apply my BB cream and concealer, I'll have to blow my nose. Three seconds later, I have a Kleenex covered with gross-looking orange makeup (which always makes me feel like I'm wearing a ton) and my carefully applied makeup is ruined.

When every precious second (and therefore moment of sleep) in the morning counts, reapplying makeup is basically at the bottom of my priority list, and I inevitably end up going to work with a bare, unconcealed patch of skin surrounding my nose.

Of course, if you have a miserable cold, makeup is probably the last thing you want to think about. In those cases, a petroleum jelly like Vaseline will trap in moisture and soothe the chapped skin around your nose.

If you do want a little extra coverage, a green-toned concealer will counteract the redness of chapped skin.

However, if you're just battling the normal winter morning sniffles, I promise you, this trick will change your life.
