Jacob Tremblay Is The Cutest Best Young Actor

Emma Donoghue’s Room isn’t only a fantastic book; it’s one of the year’s best films. It’s carried not only by Donoghue’s superb screenplay (I wouldn’t be able to let go of my book, either, so I’m glad that she translated her work to the screen herself) but by the performances of some really amazing actors like Brie Larson, Joan Allen, and, littlest but not least, Jacob Tremblay. Who said that children should be seen and not heard? Tremblay picked up the much-deserved award for Best Young Actor at the Critics Choice Awards and gave the sweetest acceptance speech.

This award means a lot not only because Tremblay is so talented but also because he was completely snubbed out of an Oscar. He totally deserved a nomination and somehow got snubbed. I’m not even sure how it happened. That made this award even more special to Tremblay, who got up to the stage to accept it and proclaimed, “This is the best day of my life!” He adorably thanked every other actor and actress in the category, as well as the cast of Room, and his family. His family, by the way, includes his police detective dad, who is beyond handsome. Handsome dad, cute kid—how could we go wrong?

Also worth mentioning is that Tremblay didn’t snag an acting nod for Room from the Golden Globes but did pick one up for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. What does this mean? Since the Golden Globes and Oscars are mostly popularity contests and the SAG Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards are not, I think it gives even more reverence to Tremblay’s performance. Even at his young age, he’s an actor’s actor, and all of these awards that focus on his skill and talent and not on his popularity show just how strong a performer he is.
