15 Super Bowl Recipes Your New Jersey Grandma Would Be Proud Of

Next Sunday, Super Bowl XLVIII comes to New Jersey, and wherever you'll be watching from, we're here to help you serve up some Jersey pride. Sure, taco dips and buffalo wings will suffice as Super Bowl party snacks — but would a New Jersey grandmother be proud of them? Probably not.

So what, exactly, constitutes "Jersey food?" Hot dogs? Salt water taffy? Boardwalk fries? Well, yes, on all accounts. But it seems that New Jersey is also known for its clams, corn, tomatoes, deli food, pizza, and being a melting pot of ethnic cuisines.

"For Super Bowl foodies, New Jersey offers a mash-up of delicacies representing just about every culture on the planet," The Associated Press reports. The "Home Food Advantage" food court at East Rutherford's MetLife Stadium will feature meatballs, pork sausage, Cuban sandwiches, curry, and tacos, among other things. With that in mind, here's a compendium of 15 New Jersey-tested Super Bowl snacks.

Zucchini Pizza Bites

From Georgia Johnson at The Comfort of Cooking: Zucchini pizza bites —a stealthy healthy appetizer. Maybe “healthy” is an exaggeration, but hey, less carbs and more greens counts for something. The important thing is that there’s lots of cheese, right?

Red Curry, Coconut, and Ginger Infused Steamed Clams

No, steamed clams aren’t typically what you think of as Super Bowl food. But seeing as clams are one of Jersey’s top commodities, it’s only appropriate to include at least one clam recipe here, I think (and, no, I refuse to share my friend’s family’s recipe for “canned clam dip”). Cuban Shrimp Bruschetta

Cuban sandwiches are a bit large and messy to serve as party food. But this citrus-laced Cuban-style shrimp bruschetta (from Adventures in Cooking) should work just fine.

Almond-crusted Tomatoes

Tomatoes are one of Jersey’s core crops, so here’s a party (and Paleo) friendly tomato recipe from Family Fresh Cooking. A twist on fried green tomatoes, these babies are baked and crusted in blanched almond meal (so they’re still grain free).
