Watch This Guy Beatbox With Siri

by Megan Grant

I've said it before but it bears repeating: Our iPhones are capable of magical, wonderful things. Exhibit A: Marcus Perez posted a video of himself beatboxing with Siri, and I was perhaps a little too entertained by it. I've had a lot of fun with my iPhone recently, exploring Siri's hidden talents and whatnot (her knock knock jokes are on point) — but this? This is new one for me. I've already head the tales of Siri beatboxing herself, proving just how versatile and well-learned she is; Perez, however, puts a whole new spin on it by asking her what one trillion to the 10th power is, and then using her robotic "onezerozerozerozerozero" answer as his beat. While Perez is generally popular on social media as a musician, this video has definitely put him in the spotlight, earning over 700,000 likes and over 350,000 shares. Not too shabby for a guy beatboxing with his phone.

After watching this piece of magic, I spent time getting lost in more of Perez's videos posted on Facebook; he's clearly a special talent, creating noises with his mouth that we've only heard come from machines. Even so, though, I think his latest collaboration with Siri takes the cake. In fact, I think it takes the whole darn bakery.

I've never seen anything like this before, but I figured Perez couldn't be the only one making sick beats with Siri. Accordingly, I headed to YouTube to see what other beatboxers are up to. It turns out Perez isn't the only talented guy with an iPhone. I was able to track down a few YouTubers getting creative with everyone's favorite voice-in-the-smartphone. This guy, for example, came out of nowhere. At the risk of sounding totally cheesy, I think my favorite thing about this one is that you can tell how much he's enjoying himself. Keep making music, dude!

This guy gives you a taste of his beatboxing skills right off the bat, and then turns to a whole lot of Japanese. If you're not well-versed in the language, you can skip to the 1:35 mark to get more of the action. How does he make those noises so fast?!

Then there's this beatboxer in the making. I underestimated his abilities. He's all cute and precious with his dog as his iPad wallpaper. Then he breaks out the fist-pumping and I feel like I'm at a rave. But he certainly puts me in my place. Silly Megan!

These guys are insane. Beatboxing isn't easy. I would know. I just tried to do it myself, and now my monitor is coated in a layer of spit. Props to these fellas for combining creativity and technology to create art. We need more people like you!
