The 'Downton Abbey' Cast Isn't Always Proper

Downton Abbey is one series where fans forget that the characters are in fact just that. The actors portraying them are actual people living in the 21st century. Not to mention, they don't dress or look like their characters in real life, either. At times, it's almost shocking to see them out of costume and to hear them talk about current events, issues, and their personal lives. It's the opposite of their characters, who are prim, proper, and living during a time period where you act appropriately at all times. Well, guess what? Sometimes the Downton Abbey cast acts nothing like their characters.

Let's just say, the Dowager Countess would probably be appalled in seeing the way her son, her grandchildren, and the rest of the Downton residents have acted in public. Knowing her, she'd probably take out her cane and give them all a stern talking to. Well, it sure is a good thing they're not really all related and the show is just pretend.

That said, I think it's time for a little roundup showing how the cast of Downton Abbey can be inappropriate. On more than one occasion, they've said and taken part in some things that would make them a scandal for life in 1920s England.

1. When Anna Talked "Sexually" To Kate Middleton

Remember that time Kate Middleton visited the Downton Abbey set? Well, Joanne Froggatt told Conan O'Brien about the somewhat sexual thing she said to the Duchess of Cambridge.

While talking with Princess Kate, who felt strange about being in Lady Mary's bedroom where they were chatting, Froggatt replied, "I said, 'Yeah, not many people get to come in Lady Mary's bedroom.' And then I was like, 'Oh my god. What have I just said?' I've just said something that could be taken really the wrong way… and I thought, 'Do I say? Do I draw attention to it?'" She did not draw attention to it, and neither did Kate.

2. When Robert Played "Shag, Marry, Kill"

Lord Grantham, how dare you get so saucy! FYI, I agree with his selections.

3. When Lady Mary Created A Housewives Tagline

While appearing on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live, Michelle Dockery made up a Housewives tagline for Lady Mary: "I'm Lady Mary Crawley, and this season I ride astride." Yep, you read that right.

4. When Branson Dished About Mary's Drunkenness

During Downton Abbey's cast party for the final season, Allen Leech spilled the beans about Dockery getting the drunkest. She did not deny it — at all.

5. When Cards Against Humanity Got Really Dirty

Let's take note that Dockery and Laura Carmichael both played the card, "Farting and walking away." Those Crawley sisters are so naughty.

6. When Matthew Went Shirtless *Gasp*

Doesn't Dan Stevens know he's supposed to keep his shirt on? What would Lady Mary think? Yeah, you know Mary's drooling just like I am.

7. When Branson Imitated Maggie Smith & Swore

Not only is Leech hilarious, but his impression of Maggie Smith is brilliant. So, be sure to watch him in this clip from WWHL, where he talks about Smith spewing the F-word over not being allowed to have tea on set. It's worth your time.

Anyone else think Violet Crawley is flipping out right now?
