'I, Frankenstein' Flops, Kevin Hart Wins

by Alanna Bennett

Did...did anyone actually think that I, Frankenstein was the world's next big hit? The promotional hullaballoo certainly made it seem like somebody did. Alas, I, Frankenstein took in paltry number's at the box office this weekend, with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube's Ride Along taking the top spot in continuing proof that American can't get enough of the buddy comedy.

For some clearer perspective: I, Frankenstein did crack the top ten at the box office, but its $8.2 million weekend wasn't really all that compared to Ride Along's $21 million or even Frozen's $9 million, especially considering Frozen's been out and dominating the box office since Thanksgiving.

With awards season now well underway the top ten list under I, Frankenstein (which came in sixth) are all Oscar contenders — except for Devil's Due — with American Hustle, August: Osage County, and The Wolf Of Wall Street in places seven through nine.

Above I, Frankenstein but below Ride Along were Lone Survivor, The Nut Job, Frozen, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. This week also marked a Frozen threshold, with the film crossing the $800 million mark and succeeding in making more money than I can even picture.

But seriously, is anyone surprised about I, Frankenstein's performance?
