Paula Deen Makes a Big Career Decision

by Kate Ward

For once, Paula Deen is dumping someone, and not the other way around. Less than a month after a deposition related to a lawsuit revealed that the Food Network personality had used the n-word, Deen has opted to drop her agent of more than a decade.

Since the news of Deen's derogatory language was released, the chef has been the center of controversy. The Food Network, which Deen had joined back in 1999, announced it would not renew her contract, and the personality was dropped by several sponsors, including Home Depot, Walmart, and even Ballantine Books, which was set to release her next book, Paula Deen's New Testament, in October.

And, following an attempt at a tearful apology on Today , Deen announced she's parting ways with Barry Weiner, the agent who helped her first score the Food Network job in the late '90s. According to a statement, "Paula Deen has separated from her agent ... She and her family thank him for the tireless effort and dedication over the many years."

Guess that's one way to save money without the QVC checks rolling in.
