A Movie About Alexander McQueen Is In The Works

by Eliza Florendo

Long live McQueen. We lost the legendary designer nearly six years ago, but he will always be in our minds. Soon, though, we'll see the story of his life unfold in an upcoming Alexander McQueen movie that will pay homage to the extraordinary designer and visionary.

Deadline Hollywood reports that the biopic will be directed by Andrew Haigh, an English director, producer, and screenwriter. His films 45 Years and Weekend have both been extremely well received, so it seems that this is the perfect director for this project. Along with Haigh, Chris Urch, an award-winning playwright will be writing the script for the movie, according to Deadline Hollywood.

This movie will be based on research conducted by Urch, and will use Andrew Wilson's biography, Alexander McQueen: Blood Beneath The Skin as a "source of inspiration and will not be entirely based on its content," according to Complex.

If you're not familiar with McQueen's life, the designer was born in 1969 in London to a taxi driver and teacher. The youngest of six, he began making dresses for his sisters at an early age. He then started as an apprentice on London's Savile Row, according to Deadline Hollywood. From there, he designed pieces for David Bowie's 1996-1997 tours, and eventually became "the head designer at Givenchy before launching his own self-monikered label," Deadline Hollywood reports. That's quite the path to success.

But there were lows in McQueen's life, particularly related to drug reliance, and his mother's passing. In 2010, McQueen committed suicide. And the fashion world was never the same. He created beauty, he created art, and he left an indelible mark in the world of fashion. His legacy will carry on forever.

While we still don't know who will be playing the designer, this is one biopic I won't be missing.
