8 Stylish Grammys Singers You Sort of Forgot About
"I am unwritten/can't read my mind/I'm undefined…"
Remember when that song was everywhere, about a million years ago (= 2005)? The artist who penned that gem is Natasha Bedingfield, in case you forgot, and like a vision of the early Aughts, she was at the Grammys last night — along with a gaggle of other semi-forgotten singer-songwriters whose presence confused us. In order to properly check out their fashion, we had to create an accompanying playlist to jog our memory. Does this mean we're getting old?
Fantasia Barrino
Oh hello, American Idol Season Three. Fantasia wore an unflattering black lace dress on the original red carpet, but this orchid number that she changed into for the after-party is much more interesting.
Listen to: “I Believe”
Paris Hilton
Birdman, you’re not the only one lost in thought as to why Paris Hilton is still invited to the Grammys. Say what you will about her “musical career,” the woman knows how to rock a side profile.
Listen to: “Stars Are Blind”
Sara Bareilles
In 2007, the world was briefly overtaken by an epidemic characterized not by bubonic symptoms but by chirpy lyrics that played on and on and on. The girl behind said lyrics looks fresh and modern in this feathery concoction, but that half-back hair-do? Takes us back. Oh how it takes us back.
Listen to: “Love Song”
Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr
McCartney stayed timeless in black and white, but what we’ve always loved about Ringo is that he just doesn’t care. Sparkly blazer? Vaguely USA-themed star-spangled button-down beneath? Sure. He’s been through worse.
Listen to: “Love Me Do”
Ciara
Ciara definitely knows how to work the pregnancy fashion angle, though there’s something a bit Beyoncified about her hair these days. But remember when she was literally the coolest?
Listen to: “Goodies”
Colbie Caillat
Her 2007 breakthrough hit was annoyingly saccharine, and the neckline on this dress is way too high. But it’s not all bad chez Caillat: in 2009, she was named 94th best artist of the 2000-2009 decade by Billboard magazine. Claim to fame much?
Listen to: “Bubbly”
Martina McBride
Don’t let this demure dress fool you — the woman’s got serious attitude. She’s been turning out hit country singles since the early 90s. What have you done lately?
