The Benefits Of This Sex Act

According to a 2012 study by Indiana University, more people are having anal sex. While the 1990s only saw roughly one-quarter to one-third of men and women having tried anal, by 2009 that percentage had jumped to 40 to 45 percent. But while that may the case, anal sex is still, as Salon reported in 2012 "Science’s Last Taboo.” We know that some people are having it, but it’s not very likely that people are willing to talk about it. Somewhere between the poop rumors and the embarrassment of liking butt stuff, people go mum.

But, as is the case with sex in general, anal shouldn’t be a source of shame. Ever. If you like anal sex, you’re not the first or the last one to do so. Both men and women the world over enjoy anal play because it can be very pleasurable when done correctly. Although that’s a fact and I can find you easily a dozen women in the next 10 minutes who agree, anal sex has yet to really be embraced by the sexual mainstream. It’s on its way there, but it’s still inching along very slowly.

As is the case with vaginal sex, there are benefits to anal sex, too. The orgasm factor alone is great for you, but there are things that make anal sex something worth practicing or, at the very least, trying.

Here are six benefits of anal sex.

1. Anal Orgasms Are The Real Deal

The human body is so extraordinary that it’s not bound to just a vaginal or clitoral orgasms. No way. There are over a dozen types of orgasms women can experience, one of which is an anal orgasm. Here’s the deal: Anal penetration stimulates all the right spots, most notably the erectile tissue connected to the G-spot. When these pudenal nerves are stimulated, the body responds with an orgasm.

2. There May Be A Higher Chance Of Achieving An Orgasm

A 2010 survey published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that of the 20- to 39-year-old female participants, 94 percent of them had had an orgasm during their most recent anal sex session. In contrast, the majority of women struggle to orgasm during vaginal sex, with one study reporting only 25 percent consistently having an orgasm during vaginal sex. So... anal is looking damn good right about now, isn't it?

3. It’s Taboo

Although anal sex isn’t as shocking as it used to be, there’s still a bit of a stigma attached to it. Women are made to think that it hurts, that it’s dirty, and that you can’t do it without there being a shitty situation – pun! But the truth is none of this is accurate. However, as long as these myths are in circulation and people steer clear of the anal love, it will remain taboo. And it’s super hot to do something that you’ve been told is "naughty" – I mean, that’s why I tried anal sex in the first place.

Anal sex is still illegal in some states and in some countries, too, so that's some exciting stuff.

4. There’s No Risk Of Pregnancy

One of the more obvious benefits to anal sex is that there is no chance you’ll get pregnant, like none at all. Unless, your uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes are in your anal cavity, which, I highly doubt they are. While that’s definitely a perk, you can still get STDs through unprotected anal sex. If you’re not in a committed monogamous relationship, I wouldn’t suggest having anal, or any other sex, without a condom.

5. It’s Another Option

Vaginal sex feels great, but sometimes we want other options. Engaging in anal gives our partner and ourselves another hole in which to indulge, leading to another type of stimulation. Oral and vaginal sex are wonderful, but with the right lube, anal can be be just as satisfying. And considering you have a higher chance of having an orgasm from anal sex than vaginal or oral, it’s option worth exploring.

It's also a fantastic option for those who want sex while menstruating, but would rather not got the period sex route. Although, period sex does have its benefits.

6. It Feels Awesome

Another benefit of anal sex? It feels good. The anus is home to thousands of nerve endings, most of which are in the opening of the anus. While it may not be the 8,000 nerves that are packed into the clitoris, it’s still a lot, and where there are a lot of nerves, there’s a lot of pleasure. Especially when you learn to relax those nerves and just go with it.
