Scott Disick Sets The Record Straight

by Emily Lackey

When it comes to his reputation, Scott Disick has one thing to say: Everyone else has it wrong. The reality TV star and former boyfriend of Kourtney Kardashian is opening up on the latest episode of Kocktails with Khloé, and he’s getting really honest, really fast. Tuesday, a brief clip from the Jan. 27 episode shows Disick lounging on Khloé’s couch, talking openly about what he has planned next in his life, and how the media gets him wrong, time and time again. And as moving as the clip is, the thing that I love the most about it is how Scott Disick sets the record straight about his public image, using his very private insecurities as an example.

In the clip, Khloé’s friend and Dash Dolls star Malika Haqq confronts Disick in the casual atmosphere of the Kocktails with Khloé set. (If you haven’t seen the show, Kardashian runs it very much like a cocktail party, with the guests playing games and talking openly with each other.) Haqq asks him point blank why he thinks people get him so wrong, and what he has planned for his future. Disick takes a deep breath before responding with some real heart, saying, "A lot of people think that [I] only care about money and cars, and don't realize it's more just about insecurities, and how much I care about my friends and my family.” He goes on to say that the Scott that everybody sees in the public eye is not the Scott he really is.

So who is the real Scott Disick? Disick says the "real him" doesn’t care about cars or money or living the high life. “The only thing I’m trying to focus on is just calming down, and just focusing on the kids,” Disick confesses on Khloé’s couch. After a beat he adds that the only thing he is trying be right now is “a good dad.”

It’s definitely a softer side to Disick than the world has ever seen, but it seems like a much more genuine one. I wish him the best in finding his focus and hope that, in the months and years to come, he’s able to show the world the real version of himself.
