11 Britney Spears Outfits You Loved, But Now Hate

Long before Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, Britney Spears was once the It girl, and you wanted to be just like her — and that includes wearing everything she wore. But let's be real, times and styles have changed quite a bit over the past 16 years, and there are plenty of Britney Spears outfits you once loved, but probably now pretty much hate, and when you flashback and take a look at them, you'll probably wonder whether to question her judgment or your own.

When I was in middle school, there was no one more iconic than Britney Spears, so she was my go-to for all things style. And yeah, that includes bucket hats, knee socks, and crop top everything. It didn't have to make sense, it didn't have to be on trend, she just had to wear it and I would instantly love it. She may not have been, but I definitely was that innocent.

Though they may have been #goals at the time, there are several outfits the singer wore that probably wouldn't really fit in today, which is basically a euphemistic way of saying, I totally hate them. Sorry, Britney, I still love you!

1. The Fur Wrap

Spears showing up to the 2000 Grammy Awards with her white dress (which is actually really chic) and a fur wrap was basically like Amal Clooney's gloves at the Golden Globes. You freaked out, you loved it, it was so classy and elegant — but today? Er, kind of tacky, no? Trust me, you will feel the same about the gloves in 15 years. Just saying.

2. The Denim Dress

This one breaks my heart a little because, like, RIP Pinky & Stinky, but this was just way, way too much denim. And denim is actually on trend right now.

3. The Fur-Lined Coat

The only thing redeeming about this outfit is that she is seriously adorable, but in what universe was that dress with cowboy boats and that coat ever OK?

4. Dress Over Jeans Over Tights

Again, all the feels for this couple, but unless it's negative degrees outside, I don't think this much layering is necessary. Ever.

5. The Dominatrix Outfit

It was so edgy at the time, and anything Britney ever did to rebel, we all ate right up. But this was just like, tacky Halloween cop outfit.

6. Crop Top, Mini Skirt, And Boots

All three of these things are still on trend today, but individually. The three together was just way too much at once. Also, you totally got detention if you wore this one to school.

7. Halter Top With Low-Rise Baggy Jeans

It's just too much of everything, Brit Brit.

8. Cargo Flares

I'm going to pretend like the zipper details don't exist.

9. The Fascinator

Britney Spears wearing a fascinator was better than a royal wearing a fascinator, but today you're probably hanging your head in shame over it.

10. Pedal Pushers With Silky Booties

Matching is good, but being too matchy matchy is just too much.

11. Maxi Skirt & Cropped Sweater

It was kind of exciting when she experimented with new styles, but let's be real. It looks like a dog ate the rest of her sweater and that skirt only accentuates it.
