If you use Tinder or OkCupid to meet people, don’t do what I do and message your matches in the booty call hours of the night (even if that's what you're looking for). According to data pulled from Nielsen, if you want to maximize your online dating experience, the best time to use Tinder is at 9 p.m and the best time for OkCupid is 10 p.m.. For those of you single dating app users out there, this is great information to have because this is when your matches (and potential matches) are probably on too.

As someone who doesn’t really take take dating apps all that seriously, I will admit that I tend to use them in the wee hours of the morning when I’m bored and can’t sleep. I just like seeing what’s out there. In case you were you’re wondering, no, that hasn’t secured me a date with anyone special nor interesting lately.

Nielsen, which you may recognize as being associated with TV ratings, tracked data from about 9,000 smartphones as part of their Electronic Mobile Measurement program aimed to bring information to companies marketing to mobile users. In the graph below, Nielsen tracked the daily usage trends on both Tinder and OkCupid.

Here are four things you should know from the data:

1. The Best Time For Using Tinder And OkCupid Is...

If you’re looking to up your chances of making a match and actually begin a flirtation, the best time to do so is between 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.. Tinder hits its peak of users at 9 p.m., while OkCupid hits its peak at 10.

2. OkCupid Is Popular In The Morning

Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., OkCupid sees a spike in user sign-ins in comparison to the early afternoon, early evening, and especially late at night.

3. Most People Sign On At 9 p.m., But A Lot Of People Also Do It At 4 p.m.

The amount of unique Tinder and OKC users peaks at 9 PM. But interestingly enough, 4 p.m. comes at a close second for Tinder users. So, if you’re on Tinder, your afternoon break may be a good time to find a date.

4. Here's When No One's On

User sign-ins for both Tinder and OKC significantly dip between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., because sleep. So, if you really want to maximize your online dating game, try to do so at a time when most people are on. That way, if you do get a match, you can quickly begin the process of getting to know each other.
