Damon's Suffering Is Far From Over On 'TVD'

Well that was quite a wild ride for our bad boy vamp. After repeating the same horrible day over and over again, Damon finally managed to escape from the Phoenix Stone on The Vampire Diaries and return to the land of the living. But, you see, when you've been led to believe that every rescue attempt is just another allusion, you don't know the real thing when it's staring you right in the face. So even though Damon had actually come back to them (after finally giving into all the pain), he still thought it was all part of the Phoenix Stone's mind games. So what did he do? He seriously injured Stefan, Caroline, Matt, and Bonnie, thinking it would help to speed up the process of getting back to his Civil War flashes. And while I don't think Damon killed any of them, it certainly indicates that his time inside the Phoenix Stone will come with some major side effects.

While it's good that Damon was finally able to emotionally open up to Lily, he was still trapped in that Phoenix Stone a lot longer than Stefan was and I have a feeling it's not done messing with his mind just yet. That thing has been known to drive vampires mad. (I mean, just look at Julian.) So I think that any time spent inside there — no matter how short — will come with some serious consequences for our Mystic Falls gang.

For starters, now everyone has to constantly worry that Damon will snap and kill all of them. (I hate when I have to worry about that with my friends.) It also means that Damon is back to being unhinged and therefore completely unpredictable. We were promised that we'd see a lot more of Season 1 "bad boy" Damon return this year. And now that he's suffered through so much trauma in the Stone, it could lead to hallucinations, paranoia, and so much more. Either way, I think it's safe to say that the Salvatore brothers' troubles are still far from over. Stay tuned...
