This Insta Update Just Made Your Life A Lot Easier

by Megan Grant

Update: On Feb. 8, 2016, Instagram confirmed on their blog that the app's latest update will include the ability to switch between multiple Instagram accounts quickly and easily. The feature will be available as part of Instagram version 7.15 for iOS and Android, which is expected to drop this week.

Earlier: Instagram is a social media favorite for many reasons, one of which is undoubtedly its simplicity; and now, they're making things even easier with a new feature that lets you switch between multiple Instagram accounts without having to sign out and then sign back in again on iOS devices. If the feature sounds familiar, it's because testing for it on Android devices began in the fall of 2015; the iOS development, however, is new. It's also worth noting that the news hasn't been officially announced yet — Bustle reached out to Instagram for comment, but received no response by press time. According to Latergram, though, some Instagram users with iOS devices have already found this new feature in their accounts, leading me to believe it's either a slow roll-out, or that Instagram is simply testing the waters before making a move.

I can say from personal experience that switching between Instagram accounts is kind of a pain in the arse. I have my personal account, and then another business account that I manage — and they are totally different communities. It's not like having to sign out to switch accounts is a huge drain of my energy, but they could certainly make it easier to toggle back and forth between pages, like Facebook does.

To check if you have this feature, go to your profile and click on the gear icon in the top right corner to access your settings. If you have the new feature, you'll see an option to "Add Account" toward the bottom of that page. This will let you switch between accounts.

Don't stress about notifications, either. Every time you receive one, Instagram will tell you which account it's coming from. I hope this feature sticks around, because it would make life a heck of a lot easier.

Go ahead and check out your settings, because there's a chance you were one of the lucky recipients of this feature and you didn't even know it. Now you can flip-flop with ease between your account and your dog's. I didn't get the feature on either of my accounts, so I'm going to go cry now.
