If Designers Couldn't Wear Their Own Designs, Who Would They Wear?
It's pretty safe to assume that most designers wear their own designs most of the time. By doing so, it shows a certain level of confidence in their own vision, proof that if they believe in the look, so should you. But what if they couldn't or weren't allowed to wear their own pieces?
What would Diane von Furstenberg wear in place of her iconic wrap dress? Who would clothe Donna Karan in her signature black drape-y layers? And if Victoria Beckham couldn't show off her skin-tight pencil dresses on a regular basis, who would be responsible for her "look" instead? Don't panic. We have some ideas if such a thing were to actually happen — who would dress who, and why, right this way.
Diane von Furstenberg Would Wear... Oscar de la Renta
It’s hard to image Diane von Furstenberg in anything but her own DVF dresses. But if the day comes where the iconic designer can’t wear her own things to her own show, we’d like to think she’d pick a flirty, albeit ladylike, dress from her friend and CFDA colleague, Oscar de la Renta’s archives.

While Joseph Altuzarra may only design womenswear for now, that doesn’t mean he couldn’t whip up some gender-neutral layers for his friend, Alexander Wang. The two are often seen hanging out on the fashion “scene” together, and if their Fall 2013 shows weren’t evidence enough of their likeminded-ness (see: exhibit A and exhibit B), then let’s just settle on the fact that we selfishly like the idea of the two wunderkind collaborating.

Who better to equip her with covet-worthy accessories (Pashli!) and sleek downtown separates than Phillip Lim? Once Minkoff’s Greene St. store in SoHo finally opens, the two designers will be just a block apart. Fate?

Zac Posen, maker of beautifully dreamy glamour gowns, tends to dress one-part dapper, one-part Americana rugged. There’s a bit of tongue-in-cheek dandy involved, too, which makes me think Ralph Lauren’s three-piece looks, complete with leather gloves and fur collars, would feel right at home in Posen’s closet.
