You know how running into your ex can feel super awkward sometimes? Well, just imagine if your ex was now pregnant with your former high school teacher's twin babies. Granted, it was all done by a magical baby transfer spell and not because the two of them had... you know. But still! And yet that was exactly the type of scenario our favorite super sexy hybrid had to face. That's right, my friends, Tyler Lockwood returned to The Vampire Diaries during Friday night's episode "Things We Lost in the Fire" in order to attend Caroline and Alaric's baby shower. (Because why not?!) Up until now, we've only seen Tyler for a few brief moments during those flash forwards, so we knew this was coming. But does this mean that Tyler is back on TVD for good? I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet.
Michael Trevino, who plays Tyler, is only here in a guest star capacity, though we can expect him to crop up multiples times throughout the reminder of the season. I mean, given the current state that Mystic Falls is in, it's clear they could really use his help in taking back the town from Julian. (It never hurts to have an immortal hybrid on your side.) But it may end up taking some convincing since it's looking as though his visit will be short lived. He's not really digging the town's new grunge vibe and I can't say that I blame him.
However, I will be curious to piece together how he ends up living — or at least driving around — New York City, as we've seen in the flash forwards. Does he live there now? Is he there just on a mission for the gang? Is he one of the huntress' targets as well? There's still a lot that we don't know about his on-going storyline this year, so you can take a small bit of comfort in knowing that even if he's not with us on a weekly basis, Tyler won't be gone forever.
