Buick's Super Bowl Ad's Got Some Familiar Stars

It's pretty much become a huge cliché that one of the best things about the Super Bowl is the ads. But, just because it's a cliché doesn't mean it isn't true. It's definitely true for me — and, I'm sure, it's true for most others watching the Super Bowl, whether they're a fan of football, commercials, or just the food served at Super Boal parties. And yet, when the game is over, all of the post-Super Bowl analysis is about the game. Where's the post-show for the commercials? I want behind-the-scenes hints and info. Like, for example, when it comes to Buick's Super Bowl ad: Who is the football player in the Buick commercial?

Lucky for us, it's 2016, and most of the ads leak online early now, so I could do a little pre-research. This is Buick's first Super Bowl ad, so they obviously wanted to make an impression — especially with sports fans. It makes sense that the star of their spot is NFL player Odell Beckham, Jr. And, unfortunately, being in the ad is the closest he's going to get to Super Bowl 50; he's a wide receiver for the New York Giants, so he won't be playing in the big game, which is Carolina Panthers vs. Denver Broncos for anyone only half paying attention.

In anticipation of the big game — and, well, the ad — on Sunday, here's what you need to know about Odell Beckham, Jr.:

He's A Tiger

Louisiana fans don't need to be told who Beckham is. He grew up in the Pelican State and played on the LSU football team.

The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From The Tree

Beckham really lives up to the "Junior" in his name. His father, Odell Beckham, Sr., was a running back at LSU from 1989 to 1992. His mother was also an athlete. "She left LSU as a six-time All-American and captured three individual NCAA titles as a member of LSU’s relay teams during her senior season in 1993," LSU Sports Net reports. Talk about a legacy.

He Had A Pretty Good First Pro Year

In 2014, Beckham had a record-setting rookie year with the New York Giants. His bio states that "he caught 91 passes for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns, all Giants franchise rookie records." He also made a catch that Esquire deemed "the best ever," calling it "so incredible that it was almost awkward." (My awkwardness, for the record, has gotten me nowhere.)

He Holds More Records Than That

In 2015, Beckham and the Saints' Drew Brees set the Guinness World Record for the most one-handed catches in a minute, with 33 successful catches. Sadly, later the same year, the record was broken — twice. It's now held by CFL player Andy Fantuz, who made 50 catches.

His Dance Partner Should Look Familiar, Too

You've seen her dance moves before, too. She's Emily Ratajkowski, who you likely remember from Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" video. (Just don't call her "the chick from the 'Blurred Lines' video" — she's more than that.) The two of them together make a strong case for bringing back end-zone dances.
