How To Switch Between Instagram Accounts

by Megan Grant

We were so pumped last week when we learned that Instagram seemed to be rolling out a new update that lets you toggle between multiple accounts without having to log out of one in order to log into the other; at the time, though, the news hadn't yet been confirmed. But now it's official, and we have the step-by-step guide for how to switch between Instagram accounts to prove it. This is not a drill, people!

On Feb. 8, Instagram confirmed the new feature in a blog post. It's not a slow release, either; they're not merely testing. The feature is here to stay and will be available with version 7.15 for iOS and Android. Check your account now — I've already received the update, and I'm not alone.

This is certainly exciting news for people with multiple accounts, because we know all too well what a pain in the keister it used to be to switch back and forth. Using this exciting new feature, let's break down the steps and go through how you can utilize it. I've used my personal page and a business page I manage as an example. I've blurred out the business page for privacy reasons.

Here's how you can switch between Instagram accounts!

1. Locate Your Settings On Your Main Profile Page

Go to your main profile page and look to the top right corner. Click the little gear icon that's next to your Instagram handle.

2. Scroll Down In Your Settings Until You See "Add Account"

Tap it. This will prompt you to add the log-in username and password of the additional account. Do so!

Once you log in, you'll be taken to the profile of that new account. Now, switching back and forth between these two accounts is super easy. Did you notice that next to my handle (on my main profile page) is a little downward-facing carrot?

3. Click On Your Username To Access The New DropDown Menu

In this dropdown menu, you will now see all accounts that you're logged into! (The blacked out account is obvi the business account I mentioned earlier.) This will allow you to toggle back and forth between pages with ease, without having to sign out, sign in, sign out, and sign back in again. The little check mark to the right of your username specifies which account you're currently using. It looks like you can add up to five accounts in total.

4. Go Back To Settings If You'd Like To Log Out Of One Of The Accounts

Don't worry — being logged into multiple accounts at the same time such that you can toggle between them isn't permanent. If you ever want to log out of one of those accounts, click the gear icon in that account to go back to your settings. Scroll down, and you'll see the option to log out of that account.

In case you're ridiculously paranoid about posting on the wrong page, like I am, fret not — Instagram makes this very clear. When you go to share a pic, it'll tell you who you're posting as.

Don't stress about push notifications, either; even if you're signed into multiple accounts, the notification will tell you exactly where it came from.

Can't get much better than that. What will social media think of next? Thanks, Instagram!
