Will Zayn Malik Be At The 2016 Grammys?

by Amy Mackelden

Zayn Malik has made a big impression on 2016 so far, particularly with his expletive-filled first single "Pillowtalk." The music video for the single co-stars his rumored new girlfriend Gigi Hadid, and it's clear that Malik is keen to leave behind his boy band roots and start afresh. However, Malik's fresh start has already been a little rocky, with him recently cancelling several interviews and appearances with radio and TV shows. But what can we expect next from the former 1D member going forward, and, most importantly, will Zayn Malik be at the 2016 Grammys? Surely that would be a great place for the singer to relaunch himself?

While the singer isn't nominated for any Grammys in 2016 (though, dare I say it, he may well be next year), the ceremony would be the perfect place to promote his forthcoming album, Mind of Mine , which is due out on March 25. His single, "Pillowtalk," has been well-received, racking up over 63 million YouTube views in less than two weeks. His decision to leave One Direction may have broken a zillion hearts, but his new music seems to speak for itself. The musician just needs some positive press to support his burgeoning career. However, since Malik has cancelled so many scheduled appearances, even if he was confirmed for the Grammys, which he's currently not, there's no guarantee he'd actually show up.

Despite being eligible, One Direction didn't get any Grammy nominations this year, a sad fact considering Made In The A.M. could be their last album ever (I mean, hopefully they'll come back from hiatus, but who knows?!). Having never won any, it feels as though the 1D boys were snubbed. However, perhaps the absence of One Direction from the 2016 Grammys could leave the door wide open for Zayn Malik to attend?

Against all odds, Malik's song "Pillowtalk" debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, something One Direction never achieved. This impressive feat shows that America is welcoming the singer as a solo artist, and would probably like it if he put in an appearance on the red carpet. He may not be performing at the event, and isn't nominated for any awards, but there's still a chance that Zayn Malik will attend the 2016 Grammys on Feb. 15, if only because he's a major success story right now (I know, I'm conflicted too!) and everyone loves his song. Maybe he could take Gigi Hadid as his date, right?
