How To Copy Khloe K.'s Perfect Ponytail

by Sienna Fantozzi

I generally think of ponytails as being a little basic and boring, so if I'm going for an updo, it's not necessarily my first choice to "wow," but Khloe Kardashian rocked a sleek, tight ponytail, and made it look way more chic than your standard go-to gym hairdo. But given that her actual gym hairdos are still totally chic, this doesn't surprise me at all.

Last week, Khloe exited the bob/lob club and got some crazy long hair extensions, and it looks like she's totally taking advantage of being able to play around with having a lot more hair to style. The 31-year-old posted a picture to Instagram on Monday ahead of a taping of Kocktails with Khloe, and gave us total ponytail goals (also, outfit goals, but that's another story). My ponytails always seem to end up either sleek or high and bouncy, but this one was simultaneously both, so it can be dressy or casual, depending on your outfit.

The post was captioned, "Excuse me!! Bobble head coming through!! Weeeerrrrk," which is a pretty hilarious nod to the ponytail's super tight and slick roots, and it was created by Khloe's longtime hairstylist, Jen Atkin.

Her hair is slicked back pretty tightly on her roots, which gives it a more elegant, polished feel, but the ponytail itself is full, voluminous, and plenty bouncy. So if you're the kind of person who loves a messy ponytail, but wants something a little more classic, this gives you the best of both worlds.

See, it's a little more glam when she's wearing an evening dress. Love.

Here are a few tips to help you steal Khloe's sleek, but bouncy pony.

Gel Your Roots

L'Oreal Paris Studio Line Strong Hold Clear Minded Clean Hair Gel; $3.97; amazon.com

Use gel, but on your roots only. You want to get your hair looking totally slick and pulled taught on top.

Use Texture Spray

Garnier Hair Care Fructis Style De-constructed Texture Tease Hairspray; $4.49; amazon.com

Spritz a texture spray on your ends only to help them style and look a bit fuller.

Curl Your Ends

Start at your chin and curl your hair through the ends. If you want something a little more glam, use the clamp. If you want it to be a little messier/beachier, wrap your hair around the barrel for a more undone wave.

Secure & Hide The Elastic

This tutorial will show you how high up to tie your ponytail, as well as how to wrap your hair around the elastic to hide it for more polish.
