Is "Formation" Eligible For A 2016 Grammy?

I'm one of those people who's all about instant gratification, so it shouldn't surprise you at all to hear that I woke up this morning with a burning desire to know — is Beyoncé's new song "Formation" eligible for a 2016 Grammy? And, yes, I know that it just came out about 30 seconds ago, and that it's probably wishful thinking on my part to think that it will be showered in the awards it so rightly deserves come Feb. 15, but most rules don't apply to Beyoncé, so I figured I should check. After all, she not only dropped a fully-formed song and video during Super Bowl weekend and still got coverage, but we also all knew the words to "Formation" when she performed it literally the next day.

When you're talking about a being with those kinds of supernatural abilities, I would in no way be surprised to hear that Beyoncé had won a Grammy for a song just nine days after its release. So is there a possibility here? Let's look into it. What is the eligibility window for the 2016 Grammys, and is there any insane chance that "Formation" slipped into it? Short answer: no way, not even close, nice try.

Slightly longer and more official answer from the Grammy's website: "For the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards, albums must be released between Oct. 1, 2014 and Sept. 30, 2015." Whomp whomp. She just missed it, by about four months, meaning that we'll have to wait a whole 'nother year for "Formation" to get the recognition it deserves.

If only we had something to do in the meantime. You know, like go to the Formation World Tour or something. Who run the world? Still Beyoncé.
