Good News About Beth Ditto's Clothing Collection

Many of us fatshionistas can now celebrate our fatness in all its glory because Beth Ditto's clothing collection dropped on Feb. 15. Or can we? Considering it's been so highly counted down, is Ditto's clothing collection sold out already? Has it gone the way of Kylie's Lip Kits, with stock lasting only mere minutes before selling out? After all, the collection launched to a similarly eagerly-awaiting audience, with anticipation building ever since the release of Ditto's collaboration corset T-shirt with Jean Paul Gaultier late in 2015, when the musician turned designer also announced that her namesake collection was in the works.

The collection features a variety of different styles, all designed by the Gossip singer herself. Although Ditto has collaborated with plus size British brand Evans in the past, this is her first collection with total creative freedom. The aim was to create clothing that wasn't trying to hide plus size figures, but that could serve as actual timeless wardrobe pieces. She told Vogue, "Instead of the idea of being ‘flattering,’ [it's] just really interesting and cool."

It's no wonder that Ditto's first solo collection has received so much hype. Bringing in big names in the plus size modeling industry like Barbie Ferreira and Philomena Kwao has definitely helped make this collection a possible sell-out.

But luckily the full collection is still available to purchase on Ditto's website, ranging from $65 all the way up to $395, which may seem pricey, but Ditto's stance against throwaway fashions explains why these items are an investment more than a fad. “I wanted to make pieces to last years. Beyond trends, beyond chain stores. I wanted to create something all its own, something just for us, made with love and consideration. Made ethically in the USA as a small company with no corporate input. Uncompromising, unapologetic, humane, and timeless. Go-to pieces designed to last,” Ditto wrote on her website.

You definitely don't want to miss out on these bright and interesting designs, considering they're far from common among plus size retailers. Not compromising was a key part of Ditto's work, as she proudly said in her Vogue interview. "I really wanted to do something that you could wear and be proud of, that’s not a ’90s throwback, not an ’80s throwback — it’s just what it is."

Although the collection isn't sold out yet, the buzz surrounding it suggests to me that it won't last on the e-shelves. If you're desperate for a timeless plus size piece from an icon like Ditto, the time to invest is now. Or as soon as your paycheck goes through.
