Is Ryan Reynolds About To Take Over Hollywood?

by Michelle Lulic

Ryan Reynolds fans... it's the moment you have all been waiting for. It is time for Reynolds' career to shine. After the success of Deadpool at the box office, the break-out Marvel hit already has a sequel in the works — and Reynolds himself is being recruited for his next big role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds is currently in talks to star in Life , the upcoming Mars-based science fiction film.

Although not much has been released about the film as of yet, what we do know is that Life is set to focus around the ideas of artificial intelligence and the prospect of there being life on the planet Mars. And what's one of the main things that has helped him get involved? Well, his incredible work in Deadpool, of course! In fact, Life is set to be helmed by people Reynolds has worked with in the recent past: The film will be directed by Daniel Espinosa, who directed the action mystery film Safe House that Reynolds starred in in 2012, and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the writer's of Deadpool who have helped give Reynolds the opportunity to shine in the form of the world's most unconventional superhero.

However, this casting news also has me curious about the possible other directions that Blake Lively's husband's career could go in. With Reynolds' strong grasp on both action and comedic timing — and the plot of Life alluding to the ideas of interplanetary space travel — could this film, should he join the cast, actually propel Ryan Reynolds to the spot of Hollywood's most in-demand actor?

Yes, he is coming late in the game compared to most other actors on their way to the top, but perhaps it was just one big hit that was coming between him and the whole new world of Hollywood he is unlocking. And, at this point, his career could split in one of two directions: He could be the next big blockbuster success, or, he could get access to roles that are more serious. In fact, compating the recent successes of both Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy, I may even go so far as to say that Ryan Reynolds could be entering the same realm that action movie breakout star, Chris Pratt, is currently residing.

In other words, the scope of Hollywood's male stars and who should be in the forefront is changing — and the line-up may not be who we were originally expecting.

But, in order to find out, we're just going to have to sit back, relax, and let it all play out in front of us. Reynolds certainly has a lot on his plate for the next few years: According to his IMDb, he's also set to star in the upcoming films Truth in Advertising and The Hitman's Bodyguard (alongside actors Samuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman).

In other words, this is going to be an eventful, Ryan Reynolds-filled next couple of years.
