Here's What Acne On Your Cheeks Indicate

by Sienna Fantozzi

Breakouts suck no matter what, but they're even more frustrating when it feels like zits are continually popping up in the same spot on your face, even when you're cleansing and doing everything right. It seems to defy all logic, so if you're wondering what acne on your cheeks indicates, it actually has nothing to do with how you're cleansing or the products you're using.

If you haven't heard by now, face mapping is an ancient practice, rooted in Ayurvedic teaching, that connects a spot on your face (your cheeks, your chin, your forehead, etc.) to an organ or body part to help figure our imbalances or why certain areas are experiencing flare-ups more than others. Of course, you can just have your run-of-the-mill pimples from not cleansing properly, but often times, the cause can be rooted a lot deeper than that, so it's important to understand what's happening inside your body to treat the side effects: the zits.

So, OK, what exactly does acne on your cheeks mean, then? Your cheeks are connected to an imbalance of liver and your lungs, but that probably doesn't help you much, so if you're experiencing breakouts on them, these factors may be the culprit.

1. Drinking

Total buzzkill, right? But all those post-work happy hours and bottles of wine during your Netflix + chill sessions can cause an imbalance to your liver, which manifests in flare-ups on your cheeks. So, like all good things — drink in moderation.

2. Pollution

Your cheeks are connected to your respiratory system, so inhaling smog (or smoking) can definitely cause breakouts.

3. Your Cell Phone

Bacteria on your cell phone case can cause breakouts on your cheek if you talk on the phone often, so maybe switch to text or bluetooth. Or, at the very least, wipe down your phone with antibacterial wipes.

4. Dirty Pillowcases

Ditto with bacteria and pillowcases. If you're sleeping on it every night, make sure you're washing your pillowcases on the regs.

5. Poor Dental Hygiene

If you're experiencing breakouts on your lower cheeks, this could be connected to poor dental hygiene. Problems in the mouth can manifest on your cheeks, so make sure you're brushing, flossing, and taking care of your teeth.
