Taylor Swift Announces New Single & It's A Fan Fav

by Jennifer Still

Whatever your feelings on Taylor Swift, you have to admit one thing: 1989 is a damn good album. It's full of wall-to-wall pop perfection, from "Shake It Off" to "Style" and everything in between. Is there any wonder it's basically dominated the pop charts and earned her the highest accolade in the music industry? I don't think so. It's the album that keeps on giving, despite the fact that it was released nearly 18 months ago now. The hits keep coming, and now that we know that Swift is releasing "New Romantics" as her new single, it doesn't look like that's going to stop anytime soon.

The popularity of "New Romantics" with Swift fans isn't necessarily surprising — it's a great upbeat track in typical Swift fashion, after all — but it's perhaps slightly unexpected, given that the track is a bonus track that wasn't even on the main album. But the message behind the song has resonated with fans, since "New Romantics" is clearly about Swift's BFF Selena Gomez. After all, who can't relate to having a true blue bestie who's there for you through thick and thin? I can't think of any better song for Swift to release next, to be honest.

Swift's choice of single isn't just good for musical reasons, it's smart for her personal life, too. Everyone loves to dissect the meanings of Swift's songs and guess who each track is about and what happened in their relationship. Given her past ties to the likes of Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer, and most recently, Harry Styles, her albums are ripe for the pickin' of listening sleuths who think they can glean real life situations from metaphorical lyrics. With "New Romantics", the message is pretty clear: ovaries before brovaries, in the words of Leslie Knope. In other words, friendship trumps all.

Sure, the press has had a field day in the past, speculating on possible feuds and fall outs between Swift and Gomez, but they've always proven everyone wrong every time by coming back together and facing the world stronger than ever, laying to rest the idea that anything could tear them apart. Life is hard enough without your BFF, and in the entertainment business, it's probably even harder. "New Romantics" celebrates those few special people in our lives that we can count on through thick and thin, and that's something worth celebrating.

It's unclear when the single will be officially released and when or if Swift will be doing a video for "New Romantics", but I've got my fingers crossed that both will be happening soon. I can't wait to turn on my radio and hear this song! Sure, I could listen to it anytime in my iTunes library, but the radio is way more fun.
