The One '90s Style Icon You Probably Forgot About

by Julia Musto

I bet you forgot about this style star, but how dare you sleep on the '90s fashion and beauty icon Liv Tyler! Once upon a time, she was just the young daughter of Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler. Then she starred as Corey Mason in the '90s hit dramedy Empire Records in 1995 and the world fell in love with the grunge princess in the plaid, pleated miniskirt.

Since then, Tyler has most notably played the elven princess Arwen in the mythical Lord of the Rings series, Betty Ross in The Incredible Hulk, and Meg Abbott in The Leftovers . However, back in the day young Tyler was fresh faced and fashionable. She was also a grunge style icon so good that even Cher from Clueless would have to give her "snaps for her courageous fashion efforts."

Mini button-front skirts, thin and slim black chiffon strappy dresses, chokers, floral prints, and high boots represented a good amount of '90s era style. Tyler was the personification of the sweet but rebellious youth so idolized on TV and film. But, the fact that her father is a rock legend, gave her the more Kurt Cobain chic feel than some teen idols of the time.

However, since her early days of fame, it seems that the world has all but forgotten the beautiful alternative grunge girl. Perhaps, it is time once again to revisit the dear Tyler, who posed with a pixie cut next to Kate Moss. You know, since the '90s are alive again! Here are a few looks Tyler played that you should bring back!

1. Diamond Chokers

Yeah, I know, not everyone can afford a straight-up diamond choker, but that should be #careergoals.

2. Strappy Dresses

Strappy dresses are a '90s staple that should have never left. Just ask Kate Moss!

3. Floral Prints

These dresses were done the way they were supposed to be back in the '90s! Thin fabric and a non-flashy print under a black leather jacket with a choker and combat boots. Done.

4. Velvet

Look at this insanely amazing red velvet button-up coat. That could be you, but you playin'.

5. The Sheer Black Dress

This dress would totally be in style now. I may have to ask her where she got that.

6. The Oversized Formless Coat

The shoulders are the only shape this coat needs.

7. The Pinstripe

Look at that crisp suit. So fresh and so clean.

8. The Pixie Cut

I can be hard to rock a pixie cut, but, everyone should try at least once! It's time for summer in my head, and this look is perfect.

9. The Miniskirt-Sweater Combo

Arguably the best '90s look. Re-watch Britney's "Hit Me Baby One More Time" video, or Empire Records itself, and then tell me you don't want to wear this right now.

10. The Gorgeous Blowout

It's insane how one woman can go from pixie to this so seamlessly, but she does it well.

11. Off The Shoulder Tops

Off the shoulder is always a good, flirty look that you can dress up or down!

Let's bring these looks back for Liv Tyler!
